"muscae volitantes [Lat., flying flies] Small motes and threads that seem to move about the field of vision, caused by cell fragments or other defects in the vitreous humor and the lens of the eye."
When I was a child, I liked lying in bed after I was put to bed, and watching the streaks, sworls, shapes and bursts of colors explode behind my eyelids. The display was even prettier if I pressed my hands hard over my eyes. I can still see it all and now I know that I am seeing my veins and white cells and red cells as well as "cell fragments or other defects." This series of paintings attempts to capture the private fireworks show we all have access to.
